World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the number of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.
The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.
The level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.
This isn't the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's level.
Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. Recommended Web site or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can choose to upgrade an item to specific stats or reroll attaches. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. Like the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players a chance to acquire better gear in earlier waves and is thus more useful in early game runs than later ones because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented by us ing golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Moreover some items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.
The Luck of an item may influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
